Hadrović: BiH has too many dates that must not be forgotten

A new film by Sarajevo producer Omer Edo Hadrović, which will talk about the role of Sarajevo taxi drivers during the occupation of Sarajevo from '92 to '95, will be shown at the beginning of May this year.

- Sarajevo taxi drivers are a link without which the defense of Sarajevo, and even BiH, would not have been possible. That is why we have an obligation to preserve their memory – Hadrović tells the Patria agency.

- It is little known that Sarajevo taxi drivers gave 144 martyrs, that among them there are 15 Golden Lilies, and that five Sarajevo streets today bear the name of murdered Sarajevo taxi drivers. Finally, the taxi drivers' radio stations were key to establishing communication from one part of the city to another. It is little known that Sarajevo taxi drivers evacuated the shelled maternity hospital at Jezero. Finally, there is not a single key date related to the war history of Sarajevo in which Sarajevo taxi drivers did not participate – says Hadrović.

Hadrović says that Bosnia and Herzegovina has too many dates that must not be forgotten. It is especially important to remind of the dates that marked the period of aggression. But, these dates should always remind us of the people who wove their lives into them.

- March 1st, Independence Day, can be the crown of all dates that should, at least for a moment, bring back to our memory those who are no longer among us – says Hadrović.

The film about the role of Sarajevo taxi drivers during the city's occupation, which lasts one hour and 20 minutes, features members of the wartime Presidency of RBiH Stjepan Kljuić, wartime Minister of the MUP of RBiH Jusuf Pušina, French journalist Florence Hartmann, and others.

Hadrović and his team from the production company “Haber” have so far made films about the role of women during the siege of Sarajevo, about the first resistance of Sarajevans on Žuč hill, the events in Dobrovoljačka Street during the withdrawal of JNA soldiers, and Sarajevo, as well as a number of other documentaries from wartime Sarajevo.

Hadrović says it is regrettable that the wartime history of the capital of BiH is preserved from oblivion by a group of enthusiasts, and not by any of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria.
