The retrial of former Serbian State Security chief Jovica Stanišić and his assistant Franko Simatović, charged with crimes in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, will continue today before the International Court in The Hague.
The judges will hear, via video link, the testimony of a protected prosecution witness who is in an overseas country.
The first defendant, Stanišić, will not appear in the Hague courtroom as he is on temporary release in Serbia until September 27.
He has waived his right to attend the trial and will be represented by lawyers.
The second defendant, Simatović, returned to custody on August 16 from temporary release, which he was granted on July 21. Stanišić and Simatović are charged with persecution, murder, deportation, and forcible transfer of Croatian and Bosniak civilians during the war in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Under four counts, they are charged with crimes against humanity, and under a fifth count, with violations of the laws and customs of war.
