Guterres: Less Political Will for Climate Change

NEW YORK, (Patria) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the opening of a two-day UN climate summit in Katowice, Poland, that world politics must focus more on climate change and strive to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, as agreed in the Paris Agreement.

- Climate change is faster than expected, and the political will to face global warming is increasingly disappearing - Guterres warned.

A new study presented in Katowice, following the decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, showed that significant damage has been done to the climate.

Other countries have also reduced efforts to cut harmful gases, the study notes.

Meanwhile, the World Bank announced it will invest 200 billion dollars from 2021 to 2025 to help fight climate change.

The Paris conference set a goal of keeping global warming below two degrees Celsius by the year 2100.
