GSS FBiH Enriched with 30 Trainee Rescuers

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - With the fourth weekend training of the Mountain Rescue Service of FBiH, on September 26 and 27, another Summer Basic Course for mountain rescuers was completed.

This made 30 participants from several stations gain the status of trainee rescuers, marking the beginning of their path to becoming registered rescuers.

Although the adverse weather conditions announced during the week suggested the possibility of postponing the last weekend training of this year's course, the working weekend was nevertheless successfully realized by the organizers with good weather conditions, hosted by GSS Station Zavidovići.

The Krivaja River canyon is always attractive, which is one of the reasons why the completion of the training was held in Stipin Han near Zavidovići. During the working weekend, the course participants underwent a theoretical-practical exam applying summer rescue techniques.

The simulation of complex rescue operations for the injured required the application of acquired knowledge in vertical and horizontal transport, selection of adequate transport equipment for lowering the injured from inaccessible steep terrain, to zip-line systems and rappelling across the river canyon. This type of rescue also included water team support, which was an integral part of the operations. Participants were introduced to the requirements for fulfilling all conditions for conducting a successful operation; good organization, knowledge, respect for structure, seriousness, dedication, and teamwork.

Instructors, instructor candidates, and registered rescuers demonstrated selfless commitment during all exercises and used every opportunity during the drills to transfer knowledge and teach the trainee candidates.

As only practical training was conducted this weekend, several rescue simulations were performed during the day and night, which is significant experience for the learning of the participants of this course.

GSS FBiH, with its member stations Sarajevo, Visoko, Zenica, Bihać, Jajce, Zavidovići, and Brčko, is enriched with 30 new trainee rescuers who have the obligation of further training and knowledge acquisition to become quality and prepared mountain rescuers.
