Greece Issues Demarche to Turkey

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a demarche to the Turkish ambassador in Athens, stating that Turkish fighter jets are increasingly violating Greek airspace.

This time, the specific reason for the demarche was the "interference" with the helicopter carrying Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to the island of Agathonisi in the Aegean Sea, where he attended the commemoration of the anniversary of the uprising against Ottoman rule in 1821, reports the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The incident occurred just days after Greek and Turkish Foreign Ministers Giorgos Katrougalos and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu agreed that delegations from Greece and Turkey would meet to discuss confidence-building measures based on an agreement signed in 1988 by then-Greek Prime Minister Karolos Papoulias and his Turkish counterpart Mesut Yılmaz.
