GREECE Lionel Dumont arrested 25 years after escaping from Sarajevo prison

(Patria) - Lionel Dumont, convicted of crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and France, has been arrested in Greece.

After more than 20 years of hiding around the world, he was caught in Greece.

Interpol has informed the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the arrest, and the Ministry of Justice of BiH is preparing documentation for his handover, Politicki.ba has learned.

Dumont is of French origin. He comes from a Christian family but converted to Islam in the 1990s. He came to BiH during the aggression and joined a detachment of mujahideen.

How much of a "Muslim" he truly was is evident from his more than turbulent criminal life. Among other things, he killed a police officer in BiH and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for it. However, he managed to escape from the Sarajevo prison on May 26, 1999.

In Greece, he was (accidentally) arrested by the police. It was discovered that the now 54-year-old man had as many as 29 different identities and three different citizenships.

Police arrested him in the city of Heraklion. Acting on the request of BiH, Interpol issued an international warrant for him after he killed a man, a store security guard, during an armed robbery in 1996. According to the Greek police, the man was arrested by officers of the Sub-Directorate Department for Criminal Investigations in Heraklion and the Heraklion Airport Police Department.

An Interpol red notice was issued against him by Interpol Bosnia and Herzegovina for armed robbery and murder, and he was subjected to a "Special Control Measure for Persons for Public Security Reasons" and a "National Administrative Measure - Entry Ban".

In 2004, he was arrested and imprisoned in France and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2007. But even since then, he managed to escape.

Since then, he has moved around the world. For a time, he lived in Japan.
