Gratz proposes amendments to the Criminal Code of FBiH: Introduce life imprisonment and recognize the criminal offense of femicide

(Patria) - Federal MP Dennis Gratz (DF) has submitted an initiative for amendments to the Criminal Code of FBiH, which aims, as he stated, to improve the security situation.

Among other things, the amendments define the introduction of the institute of life imprisonment and the recognition of the criminal offense of femicide.

Addressing a press conference in Sarajevo today, Gratz stated that life imprisonment would be prescribed for the most severe forms of serious criminal offenses committed with premeditation.

Also, the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code raise the upper limit of the prison sentence from 20 to 25 years and tighten criminal sanctions for criminal offenses against life and body, sexual freedom and morality, and against marriage, family, and youth.

He also stated that the range of security measures that can or must be applied to perpetrators of certain criminal offenses is being expanded, which, among other things, relates to prohibiting contact and communication with the victim, removal from the joint household, expulsion of foreigners from the country, and publication of the verdict.

In the context of combating femicide and violence directed at women, Gratz emphasized that he will ensure the recognition of the special status of femicide, the tightening of measures within the criminal offense of domestic violence, the criminalization of sexual harassment and so-called revenge porn, and the criminalization of threats and harassment via social media channels and other means of communication.
