Sarajevo City Council to vote on "April 6th Award" recipients in closed session, Committee also recommends Ajanović

(Patria) - The session of the Sarajevo City Council will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in the City Hall, and at this session, decisions will be made on the proposals for the "April 6th Award" in 2025.

What is interesting is that the Sarajevo City Council will close this session to the public when voting on the decisions of the Committee for awarding the "April 6th Award" of the City of Sarajevo.

The published agenda clearly shows that the Committee for awarding the "April 6th Award" of the City of Sarajevo in 2025 has proposed the recipients: Ismail Barlov, Goran Mikulić for individual awards, and for collective awards, the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Committee of the International Council on Large Electric Systems CIGRE-BH K CIGRE and the Medical Association BIMA in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The City Council will determine the final recipients of the individual and collective awards by voting. What is stated in the decision is that the City Council will determine the final recipient of the individual award by public vote, yet the announced session will be closed to the public.

What is interesting is that the Committee has sent an initiative to the competent proposers to submit a proposal to the Commission for Elections and Appointments to propose to the City Council the adoption of the Decision on awarding the "City of Sarajevo Plaque" recognition to Prof. Dr. Muhamed Ajanović.

Ajanović was a candidate for the "April 6th Award", nominated by the Dental Chamber of Sarajevo Canton and the Association of Dentists of FBiH. Ajanović has been the dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of UNSA for the third term, and according to Istraga, he has been the grey eminence of the BiH judiciary for years and is involved in numerous political and judicial processes in BiH.

On the other hand, Dr. Nermir Granov was also a candidate, who had two nominations and three letters of support from former mayors of Sarajevo, but the Committee apparently did not consider him worthy of recognition, even though he performed a heart transplant at KCUS last year.

On the night of August 4-5, 2024, Granov put Bosnia and Herzegovina, the city of Sarajevo, and the UNSA Clinical Center on the map of transplant centers.

That night, Prof. Dr. Granov and his team performed the first successful heart transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving hope for life not only to the patient who received a new heart but also to all other patients who have been waiting for a transplant for years.

The heart transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina marked our country's entry into the ranks of medically developed countries capable of performing the most complex surgical procedures.

However, for the Committee, such success is apparently not enough for an award or a proposal for other recognition, as in the case of Ajanović.
