City Council to decide today on acting mayor of Sarajevo, Karić submitted resignation

(Patria) - Benjamina Karić, the mayor of Novo Sarajevo municipality, officially accepted her mandate as mayor yesterday and submitted a letter of resignation from the position of Sarajevo mayor to the City Council.

Precisely at today's session of the City Council, councilors will elect which of the two deputy mayors will perform the duties of the acting mayor of Sarajevo.

The formal proposal is for it to be Samir Avdić, the deputy mayor, but then he must leave his position as a councilor in the Municipal Council of Novo Sarajevo. Even if he is not elected acting mayor today, Avdić will have to decide whether to remain in his current position or go to the Municipal Council of Novo Sarajevo.

The second option is for Anja Margetić to be elected acting mayor of Sarajevo.

However, everything will be clearer at today's session of the City Council.

Incidentally, all municipal councils should be constituted by mid-December, and then seven city councilors will be elected from the four city municipalities: Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo, Centar, and Stari Grad, who will form the new composition of the Sarajevo City Council, after which the election of the mayor of Sarajevo will follow.
