Mayor of Tuzla Seeks Abandoned Mines of Interest to Investors

Mayor of Tuzla Jasmin Imamović, accompanied by associates, held a meeting today at the Tuzla City Administration premises with representatives of the USAID and SIDA assistance programs, reports the Patria news agency.

The topics discussed were plans for the implementation of the local development improvement project called GOLD, which also concerns the construction of an entrepreneurial zone in the city area.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Imamović stated that the primary goal is to create new jobs and employ citizens, citing the example of the new technology incubator which has a tendency to expand. To realize such needs, it is necessary to take certain steps that would facilitate the easier creation of a base capable of generating new jobs.

Noting that conditions in BiH must be improved to increase the number of jobs, Imamović presented a proposal for a law on property of the Federation, cantons, municipalities and cities, so that certain property owned by the FBiH could be transferred to local communities, thereby creating conditions for a positive business environment.

In this specific example, it concerns abandoned mines and their unused property located within the city area.

Such an approach would facilitate the expansion of production capacities for companies ready to increase their workforce, while also enabling new investors to start production with the aim of creating new jobs in BiH.

Representatives of the USAID GOLD project agreed with the mayor on the initiative for the need to create new jobs and proposed to jointly try to act in that direction with the U.S. government.

The fact is that establishing such a system and implementing similar projects could largely solve the problem of unemployment and increase production capacities in BiH.

The second part of today's meeting at the City Administration building was the meeting of experts for local economic development of the Tuzla HUB, which, in addition to USAID representatives, included representatives of the local municipalities and cities of Gračanica, Gradačac, Srebrenik, Živinice, Doboj, Tešanj, Tuzla and Lukavac.

The initiative for joint economic development and creation of new jobs proposed by representatives of the Tuzla City Administration received full support from all present, with the conclusion that the local development improvement project is of key interest to everyone in BiH, and that through the association of municipalities and cities of the FBiH, action should continue in that direction, the Tuzla City Press Office announced.
