Mayor Abdulah Skaka returns the Flame of Peace to Sarajevo

ROME, (Patria) - Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka today received the "Flame of Peace" at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, in anticipation of the European Youth Olympic Festival EYOF 2019 in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo from February 9 to 16.

The "Flame of Peace Ceremony" was held today at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, organized by the European Olympic Committee. Nenad Vuković, Mayor of East Sarajevo, also received the Flame of Peace, and the ceremony was attended by EYOF d.o.o. Director Senahid Godinjak.

Thus, the "Flame of Peace" begins its journey to Sarajevo, where it will be lit at the Opening Ceremony on February 10 at the "Asim Ferhatović Hase" Olympic Stadium.

- The Flame of Peace is now heading to Sarajevo, the city where it belongs. Our city cherishes all the values of Olympism, everything this flame carries with it. Receiving an olive branch and this flame is a great honor that I share with the peoples and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and our Sarajevo, as a universal message of peace and progress - said Mayor Skaka on this occasion.

The "Flame of Peace" was handed over by Raffaele Pagnozzi, Secretary General of the European Olympic Committee, and Jozef Liba, Member of the EOC Executive Committee and President of the Coordination Commission for "EYOF 2019". Mayor Skaka was also welcomed by Francesco Saverio Terruzzio, representative of Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Sarajevo.

Director Godinjak emphasized that receiving the Flame of Peace is a confirmation that the organizers have done an excellent job and have earned the trust to cherish and celebrate Olympism in the coming years.
