Mayor Karić Demands Accountability: Attempts to Rehabilitate Draža Mihailović and the Chetnik Movement Are Unacceptable in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić addressed the public on social media regarding the scandal of a film promotion within the Sarajevo Film Festival that portrays Draža Mihailović's Chetniks as heroes.

The Mayor stated that Mihailović was a convicted war criminal in World War II, just as Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić were during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992-1995.

"Attempts to rehabilitate Draža Mihailović and the Chetnik movement in Sarajevo are unacceptable!

It is evident that today, while revisionism is in full swing in and around our country, even many among us are succumbing to it.

On behalf of the City of Sarajevo, I demand concrete accountability if they wish to continue cooperation with this city administration. Concrete accountability means the resignation of the person responsible for this part of the program and the selection of films within this program.

The City supports the festival as a major cultural event, but such attacks cause immeasurable damage to the festival and the City of Sarajevo.

Therefore, it is important for the festival organizers to take responsibility for such attempts at revisionism and the violation of the dignity of the City, which has always been open to others, but well-intentioned, and we will find ways to oppose those who are ill-intentioned," Karić emphasized.

We remind you that Karić did not attend the opening of the 29th SFF because Nizama Hećimović and two other people were murdered in Gradačac that day. At her invitation, peaceful protests against violence against women were held on Monday, where 16 demands were presented.
