Civic Alliance: SDA is dealing with cosmetics while our children are being poisoned

Civic Alliance (GS) once again publicly calls on the Government of Sarajevo Canton to finally take the necessary steps and protect citizens from the life-threatening pollution they are exposed to daily, announced this party, Patria reports.

GS believes that excessive pollution is the result of complete negligence and carelessness of the cantonal and city administration, and that as a result of the SDA government, we are on par with Pyongyang in terms of pollution, and at the level of Djibouti in terms of employment rate.

While the leaders of SDA and the Government of Sarajevo Canton, in their villas elevated on the nearby Poljine, are spared critically high concentrations of pollutants, they indolently look down on ordinary citizens of Sarajevo who are forced to seek help in overcrowded emergency rooms, while pediatric clinics are packed with children coming for inhalations.

Therefore, GS calls on the entire public to jointly influence the Government of Sarajevo Canton to descend from Poljine to the city and take preventive measures to protect citizens from life-threatening pollution. The measures taken so far are at best cosmetic and should serve to show that the government is supposedly doing something.

To reduce the toxic impact of pollutants on the days of worst pollution, GS proposes the following preventive measures to the Government of Sarajevo Canton:

-introduction of traffic based on the odd-even principle to reduce emissions of exhaust gases from cars, from which emergency medical vehicles, fire services, and electric and hybrid vehicles would be exempt,

-free public transport by trams and trolleybuses operating at full capacity and more frequently than planned. Buses from suburban municipalities would operate to the first tram or trolleybus stop,

-a ban on children going outside school buildings during long breaks,

-ensure a day in nature for primary school students, i.e., transport to nearby excursion sites on the Olympic mountains so they can spend a day in nature instead of indoors, and

-an increased number of emergency and primary medical care teams on duty due to the increased number of requests for emergency medical intervention.

We also call on the media to continuously inform citizens about the level of pollution and levels of dangerous concentrations of pollutants with behavioral recommendations.

Finally, GS once again reminds the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina that the only dilemma facing everyone from today until 2018 is either SDA or Bosnia and Herzegovina. This government, namely, shows that we must choose between them and physical survival. Now it is literally either us or them.
