Citizens in fear, court releases assailants

Citizens of Bileća gathered today in front of the Municipal building protesting the decision of the Basic Court in Trebinje not to detain a man identified as M.Z., who is suspected of having, along with Ž.V., who is on the run, and a minor, abducted, put into the trunk, and beaten a resident of Bileća, D. Milošević.

As announced by the Trebinje Police Department, the unlawful deprivation of liberty occurred on February 5th this year around 11 PM, and police officers searched the house and auxiliary premises, as well as a passenger vehicle used by M.Z. and Ž.V. on February 9th.

Passenger vehicles of the brand "Audi", model "Q7" and model "A8", were confiscated, for which there is a reasonable suspicion that they were used in the commission of the criminal offense.

"On February 9th, 2021, the Trebinje Police Department submitted a report on the committed criminal offenses of Unlawful Deprivation of Liberty and Bodily Injury to the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Trebinje, against individuals identified as M.Z. and Ž.V. Along with the Report on the committed criminal offense, the individual identified as M.Z. was handed over to the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Trebinje, while the individual identified as Ž.V. is currently unavailable to law enforcement authorities, and a search has been issued for him by the Trebinje Police Department," stated the PU Trebinje in a press release published today.

The District Prosecutor's Office requested custody for M.Z., but the Basic Court rejected this request.

According to reports, the incident occurred after a brief argument in a cafe, after which the trio abducted D. Milošević, put him in the trunk, and beat him near the village of Prerace on the border with Montenegro. They broadcast the violence against the young man via Instagram.

The Mayor of Bileća Municipality, Veselin Vujović, told reporters that the Security Forum, which met today, condemned this event and appealed to judicial institutions to perform their duties honorably and honestly and for the perpetrators of this event to be prosecuted.

"We appealed to the Court and the Prosecutor's Office to do their job and respect the work of the police, who requested that this person be detained precisely because of these public events. The people are revolted by the release of this person to defend himself from freedom, and today they gathered to seek justice and truth," said Vujović.

The family of the victim and the citizens have announced a protest in Bileća for Sunday, February 14th, while tomorrow, February 12th, they will hold a peaceful gathering in front of the Palace of Justice in Trebinje, starting at 12 PM.
