Citizens in a Politically Arranged Mire

I watched recently when Šefik Džaferović said at "Krug 99" that in the absence of political will to create a better system in BiH, through which we would achieve the ideal of a state of equal peoples and citizens as soon as possible, the only thing left is to respect what we have today. That, he added, is the framework within which we should operate.

What kind of framework do we have in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

According to data from the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH, 35,377 people left Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017. Preliminary Eurostat results show that GDP per capita for Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressed in purchasing power standard, for last year is 32 percent of the European Union average. The OHR and foreign embassies in BiH warn of a possible increase in corruption in the country after HDZ and SNSD did not support amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH. And let's not go on. Aside from the fact that for the last 20 years, this political will and unwillingness in BiH has mainly been made by SDA, with its brotherly Croatian and Serbian parties, it is more concerning that Džaferović has reconciled himself with the fact that we citizens will certainly wallow in their politically arranged mire for some time to come.

Albin Kurti, one of the greatest opposition politicians from Kosovo, explained the phenomenon of the survival of almost three decades of West Balkan political madness to me like this: "No matter how bad the situation is, it suits someone, because someone benefits from it. If no one benefited, that situation would not be sustainable." There is no reason not to believe Albin Kurti, because he is a top intellectual, speaks four world languages, and he experienced the criminal regime firsthand when the Serbian regime held him in prison for more than two and a half years solely for his free-thinking views.

Therefore, Džaferović knows what he is talking about in the name of maintaining the status quo of our mire.

To avoid misunderstanding, and in case any citizen, by chance, gets carried away and commits an offense - Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a ship sailing without a helmsman. Šaban Dervić from Visoko was sentenced to 15 months in prison for stealing wood. The police did not even question anyone after the documents disappeared from the first-instance verdict against Dragan Čović, for which the current member of the BiH Presidency and leader of HDZ was sentenced to five years in prison for enabling the Lijanovići to cause the state damage of tens of millions of KM in taxes. What do I want to say with this? The institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina function perfectly well, especially the police and judicial ones, only their roles are distorted: they closely follow ordinary citizens and protect the political elite of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dervić was arrested and convicted because he stole wood so his family could survive. Čović's driver Krezić was not held accountable after the media revealed that he had kidnapped a man. Kemal Čaušević is still unpunished despite all the scattered evidence and indictments. The arrest of Dodik for millions in crime would certainly mean a blow to Serbdom.

I understand Mr. Džaferović - why would there be political will to change such a well-rehearsed system.
