Citizens prevented a historical injustice: If relocation starts again, assembly point - in front of the Hospital

Thank you to everyone who stood guard and protected the General Hospital these past days. Just so it is not forgotten: we were not expressing dissatisfaction or protesting, as could be heard in the media and statements of political parties. We stood guard and protected the hospital from which relocation was supposed to begin on Monday, January 11, these are the words addressed by the citizens of Sarajevo who stood guard for days in front of the General Hospital „Prof. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš“.

We remind that the plan to merge the General Hospital with the UKCS, and then shut it down, started haphazardly under the leadership of Sebija Izetbegović, the current director of UKCS, but thanks to the citizens, this plan has for now been thwarted and halted.

- The relocation was supposed to start, but it didn't because we were there already on January 10, Sunday, and because the hospital workers themselves opposed it. We did not just complain and we did not stand symbolically; we prevented the hospital from being moved out through some rat channels and gave support to the workers of the General Hospital to resist the closure and continue the fight for their work and our common hospital – the citizens say.

Furthermore, it is said that special thanks go to those who, on crutches or with hands clenched from arthritis, wrote messages, thus refusing to be just some number of signatories - for over 20 years we have been a number, for the machine or the polling station. This was not an action of numbers but of human voices.

We do not forget the support from other cities in BiH, especially Gračanica which offered to stand guard in Sarajevo, and Mušica and his Mostar people who plastered Mostar with hundreds of posters for the General Hospital!

Part of the messages to the workers of the General Hospital was handed over to Dr. Mačkić. The rest will be displayed in the coming days on a board we will place by the hospital gate, so that the workers can read them daily.

For now, we are concluding PHASE I of the hospital defense, i.e., the guard duty, because the fight for the hospital has moved to institutions, primarily the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton. PHASE II will therefore be the submission of our opinions to Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković, who has requested expert opinions on the fate of the Hospital. We built it, we use it, we pay for it and for him - we are also experts.
Among other things, we will demand that we be allowed to address the Assembly when decisions about the hospital are made, and we will not allow them to serve us the same story every time about serious 'legal representatives' and some mob good only for elections.
