Sarajevo citizens ready to donate organs

A signing of donor cards for potential organ donors was organized today in the square in front of the Sarajevo Cathedral starting at 12 PM, as part of the marking of the European Day of Organ Donation and Transplantation, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

The Donor Network and the Association of Physicians for Nephrology, Dialysis, and Kidney Transplantation in BiH enabled the public signing of donor cards and familiarization with this topic through promotional materials again this year, the Association announced. The campaign lasts until 2 PM.

In the past 15 years, ten thousand BiH citizens have signed donor cards.

Chronic kidney diseases are on the rise, the situation has been alarming for a long time, and dialysis patients receive their therapy in overcrowded centers.

There are three transplant centers in BiH, in Sarajevo, Tuzla, and Banja Luka, but a small number of transplant procedures are performed, mainly due to the low number of donors and unresolved legal regulations.
