Citizens paid tribute to children killed during the Siege of Sarajevo and in Gaza

(Patria) - Citizens of Sarajevo gathered tonight in the city center, between the Monument to the Murdered Children and the Eternal Flame, to remember the children killed during the Siege of Sarajevo and in Gaza, and to remind of the importance of resisting all forms of fascism and preserving humanity.

"Reading the names of murdered children is a call to remain human. Connecting the names of murdered children of Gaza with the names of murdered children of Sarajevo is an act of solidarity and historical memory.

Sarajevo is a city that was exposed to systematic violence and the killing of children, waiting for the world to react," stated the organizers, including an informal group of citizens, the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo, and the Public Institution City Museums.

The president of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo, Fikret Grabovica, says that tonight's event has multiple significances.

- The symbolism of the connection between Gaza, where children are still being killed, and what happened here during the Siege of Sarajevo, reminds us of suffering due to fascism.

It is important for citizens not to forget what happened and to pass that truth on to the young. Our message is that all citizens of this city should not, must not forget what happened during the siege - Grabovica said.

More than 17,000 children have been killed during the Israeli genocide in Gaza, and approximately twice that number have been injured.

Almost all children in Gaza suffer from deep trauma due to the loss of parents, brothers, and sisters, from constant bombing, and many are starving and at risk of dying from hunger.

During the Siege of Sarajevo, 1,601 children were killed, and tonight's event symbolically connects Sarajevo's memory with the tragedy of children in Gaza, pointing to a universal message against fascism and violence against the youngest.
