Citizens massively sign petition to remove pigeon protection on Baščaršija

The installation of spiked protection on the symbol of Baščaršije Sebilj, and on the poplar tree ultrasonic inaudible protection as "protection" from pigeons and other birds has sparked outrage among most Sarajevans. Sarajevo resident Naida Kurdija launched a petition to remove the protection so that pigeons, which are an inseparable part of this part of the city, can return to Baščaršija, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Kurdija started her action on Monday and will stand in front of Sebilj every day, and numerous citizens have already signed the petition.

- I was born in Sarajevo and pigeons are a symbol of Baščaršija and Sebilj. It is very difficult to find a photo of Sebilj without pigeons, which speaks enough about their significance - Kurdija told Patria.

As of today, just over 4,000 signatures have been collected online and about 500 in front of Sebilj. Naida will collect signatures from 1 PM to 5 PM until the end of the week.

As announced by the Municipality of Stari Grad, the protection was installed because of the wooden bench, which is difficult to clean from bird droppings, and therefore it is impossible to sit on the installed wooden bench.
