Montenegrin Citizens Still Cannot Enter the EU

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At today's meeting in Brussels, ambassadors of the European Union member states decided, while considering temporary travel restrictions, that there are no changes compared to the current list, which means Montenegro remains on the list of countries whose citizens cannot travel to the EU.

Diplomatic sources from Germany, which currently holds the presidency of the EU Council, confirmed to Tanjug that the ambassadors of the member states did not revise the list of countries allowed to enter the EU territory based on the epidemiological situation at today's meeting in Brussels, reports Montenegrin Antena.

The list of 11 countries has not changed since August, and Brussels notes that this is due to the unstable epidemiological situation in the Western Balkans, the EU, and the world.

The requested criterion for opening the EU's external borders to third countries is the epidemiological situation in the last 14 days, which should be the same as or better than the EU average.

The main criterion for the EU to open its borders to so-called third countries is that the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is "close to or below the EU average" as of June 15, when the average number of new infections in the EU per 100,000 inhabitants was 16.

Montenegro was on the list of countries for which free travel across EU borders was recommended on July 1, but it was removed in mid-July due to the worsening epidemiological situation.
