City of Sarajevo secures functioning and maintenance of over 40 public drinking fountains

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The City of Sarajevo today secured the functioning and preservation of more than 40 public drinking fountains, one of the most important symbols of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Mayor Abdulah Skaka, after today's contract signing at the City Hall. 

Namely, the City of Sarajevo has taken over the responsibility for managing, maintaining and paying bills for water supply from public drinking fountains and public toilets. On that occasion, Skaka signed a contract at the Sarajevo City Hall with Azra Muzur, acting director of the KJKP Vodovod i kanalizacija (Water Supply and Sewerage Company). Based on this contract, the City of Sarajevo, among other things, also took over the obligation to pay the overdue and unsettled debt for water supply and wastewater disposal from public drinking fountains.

As stated today at the contract signing ceremony, this concerns the preservation of more than 40 public drinking fountains and public toilets, mostly in the municipalities of Stari Grad and Centar.

- Public drinking fountains are a centuries-old symbol of our city. Generations were born and grew up with them. In this way, we have systematically solved a pressing issue and preserved a tradition deeply rooted in the life of Sarajevo and its residents. Numerous Sarajevo fountains are waqf, public property that we have an obligation to preserve and maintain for the future - said Mayor Skaka.

He announced that the City of Sarajevo will do everything to have the largest number of fountains back in operation as soon as possible. With the contract signed today, the City also committed to paying the overdue debt on invoices issued by KJKP ViK. This concerns an amount exceeding 350,000 convertible marks, which will be settled in the coming period according to the dynamics specified in the contract.
