City of Sarajevo pays tribute to Davorin Popović and Kemal Monteno

(Patria) - "The opus of their work is an invaluable creative skill they left us. The beauty of a song for all generations fits into 3 minutes and goes into eternity. Davorin and Kemo were and remain an important part of the City of Sarajevo and our country. Through their songs they shared love, but also spoke about the most difficult moments for this city. They are not with us, but they are forever in our hearts. Thank them for explaining through song what life, respect, knowledge, and love for the city are," said the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, last night at a gathering in honor of Sarajevo's music greats, Kemal Monteno and Davorin Popović.

The City of Sarajevo initiated and organized a manifestation with the symbolic name "Letter to Friends" in the Memorial Park of Mirza Delibašić and Davorin Popović, in front of the iconic FIS.

Mayor Skaka emphasized that at the next session of the City Council, he will request that the Decision on organizing the New Year's Eve celebration include an obligation to promote the repertoire of Davorin and Kemo. The gathering on the occasion of remembering the two prominent artists was an ideal opportunity to reconstruct the scene from the video filmed in 1992 for the famous anti-war song after which the event was named.

In the presence of some of the biggest names of the Sarajevo acting and music scene gathered at the place that before the war was a symbol and gathering place for greats such as Kemal Monteno and Davorin Popović, they had the opportunity to watch two films about the two musicians.

This is just a small sign of attention, a memory of two great artists who enriched the lives of generations. Friends gathered, we spoke kind words, remembered that great song which, in the besieged city, meant resistance, hope, and the Sarajevo spirit. Kemal Monteno was born on September 17, 1948, in Sarajevo, and Davorin Popović on September 23, 1946.
