City of Sarajevo does not give up on intention to organise public New Year's Eve 2016 celebration

The Executive Board for the preparation and organisation of the New Year's Eve 2016 celebration believes that the City of Sarajevo, despite the difficult financial situation in which it found itself through no fault of its own, should organise a central public New Year's Eve celebration.

The Executive Board, which met today, also believes that the City of Sarajevo should be the leader of this project, given that it has successfully organised this event for 15 consecutive years.

Board members agreed that the programme content of the outdoor New Year's Eve celebration should be rationalised compared to previous years, because funds cannot be spent from the budget when there are currently none available.

At today's session of the Executive Board, it was stated that this year, as in previous years, the municipalities of Centar and Stari Grad have allocated funds in their budgets, and it is almost certain that the municipality of Novi Grad will also participate in organising the public New Year's Eve celebration. At this moment, information is lacking on whether the municipality of Novo Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton will finance this project.

Given that all municipalities in the Sarajevo Canton benefit from the public New Year's Eve celebration, the Executive Board will send them a request to allocate money from their budget reserves in accordance with their capabilities. This request will also be sent to the municipality of Novo Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton, and after its next session, the Board will inform the public which entities support this event.

The Executive Board decided on this move in order to secure financial resources for a higher-quality celebration programme, thereby attracting a large number of guests from the region and abroad, and thus contributing to significant financial effects - both in tourism and hospitality, as well as in service and craft industries.
