City of Vienna Donated Four Fire Trucks to Sarajevo Canton

The Mayor of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Ivo Komšić, attended the official handover ceremony of the donation from the Vienna Fire Department to the Sarajevo Canton Firefighting Association today at the premises of the Voluntary Fire Brigade "Alipašin Most", reports the Patria News Agency.

These are four special fire trucks, which the City of Vienna, in partnership with the City of Sarajevo and without whose technical support this donation could not have been realized, gifted to the voluntary fire brigades of Sarajevo: Alipašin Most, Novo Sarajevo, Vratnik, and Tarčin.

Gerald Schimpf, officer and spokesperson for the professional Vienna Fire Service, handed over the keys of the fire trucks to the commanders of the four Sarajevo voluntary fire brigades:

-Today's handover of four universal firefighting vehicles is the culmination of the cooperation between the firefighters of Vienna and Sarajevo so far, Schimpf emphasized, adding that a delegation of Sarajevo firefighters had visited Vienna twice to familiarize themselves with the organization, equipment, and tactics of the professional fire service of the City of Vienna.

Tajib Pašić, president of the Sarajevo Canton Firefighting Association, thanked the firefighters of the friendly city of Vienna, stating that this donation will contribute to the improved work of the Sarajevo voluntary fire brigades, and thus to a higher level of protection and safety for the city of Sarajevo in cases of fires and other natural disasters.

-With the donated vehicles from the City of Vienna, we will replace our own, which are almost three decades old. We will cover the entire Sarajevo Canton with them and strive to intervene as quickly and efficiently as possible," Pašić added.  

In addition to representatives of the City of Sarajevo and the City of Vienna, the handover was also attended by representatives of the Sarajevo Canton, the Civil Protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Sarajevo Canton, as well as representatives of the Austrian Embassy.
