The Young Lady's House to Get a New Facade

(Patria) - Following all the obtained approvals for the restoration and renovation of the facade of the "Young Lady's House" building on Obala Maka Dizdara (Hamdije Kreševljakovića, on Monday, February 19th, works will begin on the renovation of this national monument.

The project will be entirely financed by funds from the City of Sarajevo budget.

The "Young Lady's House" is one of the few buildings of Bosnian-Herzegovinian architecture from the Austro-Hungarian period with wall paintings executed in the sgraffito technique. Given its location at the beginning of the Obala Maka Dizdara promenade, it will surely gain new splendor and attract numerous tourists after the new facade.

On its western side, the building is adjacent to a building constructed during the same period, which is currently used as the Embassy of Greece.

Starting in 1905, the building was owned by "ddo Sarajevo", and in 1935, ownership changed. Based on the purchase agreement dated September 19, 1935, Ilija Cvijanović from Sarajevo came into possession of the building.

During World War I and II, and the periods in between, the building did not sustain damage. In 1962, the building was nationalized, but the heirs of the owner were allowed to keep the apartment on the upper floor and the attic.

During the last war in BiH (1992-95), the building sustained minor damage due to shelling. After 1995, the building was abandoned, except for the ground-floor residential unit, and visible degradation of the roof structure due to moisture penetration, as well as the painted northern facade, occurred.
