Gorčević: It is impossible not to feel endless sorrow and pain in Potočari

(Patria) - Standing here, it is impossible not to feel endless sorrow and pain, but also the responsibility that this should never happen to anyone again. As a Bosniak from Montenegro, and as a mother, I regret that history did not record a different sequence of events. I regret that neighbours and friends did not protect those who were recently among them, said the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević.

"Nearly three decades were not enough, unfortunately 29 years were not enough for all victims to be buried with dignity. This crime, the largest in Europe after the Second World War, is the responsibility of all and a warning that the same can happen again, and it is proof of the danger of the madness of nationalism," said Gorčević.

She added that we live in a grim everyday reality where war suffering selectively evokes compassion.

"To persist exemplarily and heroically for decades in the fight for justice is the greatest proof of the courage of the survivors. Let us never forget the genocide in Srebrenica, all 8,372 of them, because of unfulfilled dreams, unrealised plans, we will not forget. May they rest in eternal peace," concluded Gorčević.
