Goražde got a street named after the heroine in white Dušanka Vujasić, brutally killed by a shell from the hill while helping her fellow citizens

(Patria) - In Goražde, a plaque with the name of Dr. Dušanka Vujasić street was ceremonially unveiled today, with which the city has dignifiedly paid tribute to the heroine in white who lost her life helping citizens during the hardest days of the war siege.

The plaque was unveiled by the Mayor of Goražde, Ernest Imamović, and Dušanka's son, Slobodan Vujasić.

The ceremony was attended by members of Dr. Dušanka Vujasić's family who came to Goražde from Serbia and Croatia, numerous dignitaries, friends of the city, and representatives of public and social life.

By unveiling the street sign, the memory of Dr. Dušanka Vujasić, a dentist who, although born in Belgrade, accepted Goražde as her home, has been permanently preserved.

During the war, she remained with her fellow citizens and patients, helping the wounded and sick in extremely difficult conditions.

She was brutally killed, along with her colleague Dr. Hasan Imamović, on April 27, 1993, when a shell fired from aggressor positions on the surrounding hills hit the Health Center building.

At the time of her death, she was six months pregnant. Her sacrifice and humanity remain permanently inscribed in the history of Goražde.

The City Council of Goražde had previously passed a decision, based on an initiative submitted by the President Dženis Ćulov, to name one of the city streets after her.

With today's act, Dr. Dušanka Vujasić became the first woman after whom a street was named in Goražde since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement to this day.
