Goran Kovačević: Zubac was not adequately punished

Goran Kovačević, an associate professor at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies in Sarajevo, commenting on the dismissal of SIPA Director Goran Zubac, told Hayat TV's Dnevnik tonight that after the Zubac case, it is evident that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, accountability only comes when political support is lost, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Director of the Agency for Investigations and Protection of BiH, Goran Zubac, was dismissed from this position today due to negligence during the protests in Sarajevo on February 7 last year, when the BiH Presidency building, the Sarajevo Canton building, the Centar Municipality building, and several other facilities were set on fire, because he refused to send the Special Unit to assist members of the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies.

In the interview, Kovačević reminded that Zubac damaged the state of BiH by about 340,000 KM. At the same time, he believes, the court proceedings against Zubac cost just as much, which is why one cannot speak of an adequate punishment imposed by the Court on the now former director of SIPA.

- Perhaps this will even be a stepping stone for him to start engaging in politics – said Kovačević. He added that a good example of how politics protects its people in power, besides Zubac, is perhaps Mirsad Vilić, director of the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, who is still in that position only because he has political protection, reports NAP.
