ANNIVERSARY OF DŽEMAL BIJEDIĆ'S DEATH He loved Bosnia, more so Herzegovina, and most of all Velež

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On this day in 1977, Bosnian-Herzegovinian politician Džemal Bijedić died in a plane crash, along with his wife Razija.

Bijedić was born on 12 April 1917 in Mostar. He was a person whom everyone loved and is certainly one of the most popular politicians in the history of our country. 

The accident in which the Bijedić couple died was never fully resolved. The family tried several times to obtain documents located in Belgrade, but they were not allowed access. 

Representatives of the SDP today paid tribute to one of the most significant figures in the political history of BiH.

Members of this party in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, Lana Prlić and Irfan Čengić, along with the Minister of Labour, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Government of Canton Sarajevo, Malik Garibija, paid tribute to Bijedić at the Bare cemetery in Sarajevo. 

“A great statesman, who loved this country, which is why he built schools, cultural centres, created jobs...”, Čengić wrote on his Twitter account. 

Prlić also posted a message: “He loved Bosnia and Herzegovina, Herzegovina a little more, and Velež the most.”
