Today and tomorrow mark two major anniversaries of massacres in the municipality of Novi Grad, when innocent civilians were killed at Alipašino Polje in a makeshift classroom where teacher Fatima Gunić died with three students, and 23 students were seriously or lightly injured, and on November 10th in Otoka in front of the elementary school "Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar", reports the Patria News Agency.
The massacre at ZAVNOBiH Square is one of numerous massacres of Sarajevo citizens, committed by the Serbian army during the siege of Sarajevo, on November 9, 1993, as part of a campaign of shelling civilian facilities in the city.
On that day, a shell fired from Serbian positions killed teacher Fatima Gunić with three of her students, Adis Mujalo, Vedad Mujkanović, and Feđa Salkić, in a makeshift school at ZAVNOBiH Square no. 18 in the Sarajevo settlement of Alipašino Polje. In the massacre, 23 other students were also seriously or lightly injured. Today, the makeshift school from the time of the siege of Sarajevo is named Fatima Gunić after the teacher who was killed with her students during a school lesson. Not far from the school, on the same day, five more people were killed, and 42 were injured.
