Anniversary of the battle where war diary and criminal Mladić's jeep were captured

On this day in 1994, the military operation "Brezza 94" began, which the 1st Krajina Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska attempted to carry out against the 5th Corps of the Army of RBiH, especially against the 505th Bužim Brigade, which was one of the fiercest opponents of the Serb army during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The importance of this operation for the authorities in Republika Srpska and Serbia is best illustrated by the fact that the unsuccessful operation was led by the VRS general, Hague indictee, and war criminal Ratko Mladić. It is interesting that during the fierce conflicts, members of the 5th Corps of the Army of RBiH also captured Mladić's jeep.

The goal of the VRS was to break the 505th Viteška Bužim Brigade as the backbone of the 5th Corps, and then to break the entire 5th Corps, advancing from the direction of Bužim towards Cazinska Greda in the area of Željava Airport. This would have cut the District into two parts, with Fikret Abdić being installed in the northern part, and what happened to Srebrenica a year later would likely have happened to Bužim and Bihać.

From September 4th to 12th, the VRS brutally and madly attempted to break through the defense lines of the 505th Viteška mtbr from Baštra and Ćorkovača to Radoč. The VRS also used helicopters and poisonous gases in the operation, but still had no success.

The VRS operation was stopped, and the 5th Corps captured a large part of the armament, including a T-55 tank, mortars, military equipment, ammunition, and Ratko Mladić's jeep, in which military documents of the operation "Brezza 94" were found, writes NAP.
