SDP Main Committee decides whether to hold a regular or extraordinary congress

The session of the SDP Main Committee is being held in Sarajevo today, and discussions will focus on the conclusions of the party's Presidency following the collapse in the General Elections.

As Patria's reporter reports, a heated debate is taking place at the session, and journalists are not allowed to attend the session. From some members of the Main Committee who occasionally step out into the hallway, it can be heard that the most grievances against the party leadership are voiced by SDP members from the Tuzla and Krajina regions.

The party's work over the past four years will be analyzed, and a position will be taken on the proposal of the SDP Presidency to hold an extraordinary party congress.

The Main Committee will be proposed, as previously announced, to put the submitted and announced resignations "ad acta."

Opinions within the SDP are divided on whether to hold a regular or extraordinary party congress, with the final decision to be made by the Main Committee by a majority of 110 votes.

Party Vice President Damir Hadžić stated that immediately after the elections, all SDP organizations generally declared themselves in favor of an extraordinary congress.

- Everything was moving in the direction of reaching new leadership as soon as possible. If you ask me specifically, I am for an extraordinary congress, which should be held within the next 40 days, so that we can start the recovery of the SDP in a consolidated manner - said Hadžić.

SDP Vice President Denis Bećirević said that this party needs genuine reforms, personnel and every other kind.

- I am against a hasty extraordinary congress and I believe that matters should be delegated to municipal and cantonal organizations. We need to stop the practice of everything being decided at the top of the party - said Bećirević, commenting on the offered resignations of his colleagues, he said "that is their move, it should have been done at the Main Committee."

SDP Secretary General Nermin Nikšić said that the election results are such "that we cannot consider all this as a regular procedure."

- If the Main Committee accepts going into an extraordinary procedure, the SDP Presidency had proposed in that case to reject the offered resignations; if we decide as if nothing happened, then we will also discuss that - Nikšić emphasized.
