Geography in a different way: Professor Vedran Zubić launches video channel with help from former students

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Geography professor at Sarajevo's Dobrinja Gymnasium, Vedran Zubić, began today publishing video lectures on YouTube, which will be released on Sundays and Wednesdays. The first lecture, in which he explained the purpose and goal of Introduction to Cheerful Geography, also covered the story of the lunar eclipse.

In an interview with the Patria agency, Zubić explains that the idea for launching the YouTube channel came from former students.

- They said it would be great to have some fun and for people to learn something. I thought this is probably the future of education. Maybe we will even have live streams from classes. So, people would listen to me, as it were - says Zubić.

Everything was arranged through a Facebook group where former participants responded, and the name Introduction to Cheerful Geography was chosen together.

- They created the logo, the channel itself, and the technical part. Filming, editing, sound. They do everything. I am just the one who talks. For that, special thanks go to camerawoman Laura Brunner, sound engineer Muhamed Bajramović, and the project ideologists, the Hromadžić brothers. The goal is the spread of science, learning, and even fun. So, learning through fun. Modern technology has now offered us these things.

When asked how long the YouTube channel will last, Professor Zubić explains that it will depend on how much it is followed.

- I think there will always be people who want to hear something about a scientific discovery. We will talk about astronomy, morphology, geology, natural phenomena. We will explain earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons and monsoons, volcanoes and geysers. Of course, weather and climate changes. We will also talk about social issues. That is also part of geographical knowledge - says Zubić.

Followers of the YouTube channel can also participate themselves by writing to the email [email protected], giving suggestions, proposing topics, or even answering questions that will be posed in posts.

Zubić is otherwise known to the wider public for his innovative methods in teaching geography to his students. A few years ago, Zubić also organized a class for his former students, which was held at the Dobrinja Gymnasium.
