The Srebrenica Genocide is a judicially proven fact

(Patria) - Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, held a daily briefing yesterday, May 1st, which also addressed the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide.

Dujarric informed the public about numerous topics related to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide was discussed during the part of the briefing dedicated to journalists' questions.

To a direct question about what Guterres thinks of the resolution, Dujarric clearly answered that for the UN, the Srebrenica genocide is a judicially established fact.

"Member states will adopt resolutions on various topics and vote on them as they deem appropriate. As for this particular issue, the fact that there was genocide in Bosnia has been judicially recognized. And we always say here, if you ask about genocide in different places, if it has been recognized by a court, it is a fact, as far as we are concerned. So, these facts have not changed for us," said Dujarric.

To another question about whether adopting a resolution on the Srebrenica genocide is a good idea, the answer was in a different tone.

"I did not say it was a good idea, and I did not say it was a bad idea. I said that member states will do what they do with their wisdom. I expressed our position; you can make comparisons, contrasts, and analyses," explained the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.

Let us recall that the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide is expected to be presented to the UN General Assembly in mid-May, although the exact date is not yet known. The authors of the resolution are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, and Rwanda, and the co-sponsors are Slovenia, the United States of America, Italy, France, Chile, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Vanuatu, and Turkey.
