Where are the doctors who were fired or left the CCUS on their own due to Dr. Izetbegović and what are they doing?

Since Dr. Sebija Izetbegović took over as head of the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, a large number of top doctors have left the CCUS under certain pressures or on their own initiative, due to disagreement with the policy implemented by the director since January 11, when she assumed this position, writes the Patria news agency.

Upon taking office, Director Izetbegović immediately began replacing clinic heads, abolishing certain clinics and departments, and merging them for alleged savings.

The first to be targeted was academician Senka Mesihović-Dinarević, who, after being removed from the position of head of the Pediatric Clinic, very quickly left the CCUS on her own and devoted herself to working in her private practice.

In a short period, the CCUS was left by plastic surgeon Reuf Karabeg, who has a private polyclinic, and Assistant Professor Dr. Alden Prcić, a top urologist who went to work in the United Arab Emirates.

The married couple Nenad and Selma Vanis, doctors of gastroenterology and a specialist in pediatric anesthesia, went to Bahrain, where they signed a five-year contract with a hospital.

Doctors Rusmir Mesihović and Goran Akšamija have frozen their status at the CCUS and moved into professional representation (federal and cantonal).

Prof. Dr. Mehmed Kulić was removed at the end of May from the position of head of the Cardiology Clinic, and through reorganization, that clinic was merged with the Clinic for Vascular Diseases, and Prof. Dr. Mirza Dilić was appointed head of the new Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessel, and Rheumatic Diseases. Dr. Kulić soon left the CCUS and opened a private practice.

The married couple Karčić, Dr. Sci. Huida and Suad, subspecialists in ophthalmology, also left the CCUS and work at the private polyclinic „Oko“. 

Nedžad Šehović, a subspecialist in plastic surgery, took a year of unpaid leave and during that time worked in Norway. A few days ago, he resigned from the CCUS and returned to Norway.

According to Patria's information, the CCUS was also left by doctors Mubera Hasanović, a pediatrician, and Sabina Kurtagić, a subspecialist in pediatric gastroenterology, who started working at the Public Institution Health Center of Sarajevo Canton.

The former head of surgical disciplines, Prof. Dr. Haris Tanović, went into early retirement, as did Prof. Dr. Nada Koluder, a specialist in infectious diseases.

Fahrudin Kulenović, president of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton, told the Patria news agency that a huge number of doctors have left the CCUS, including 10 or 12 professors and one academician.

Kulenović said that younger doctors are massively requesting from the Medical Chamber the issuance of Ethical Clearance, which they need to work outside Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- It concerns dozens, not to say hundreds, of both young doctors who have just completed their education and joined the Medical Chamber, as well as those from the CCUS - said Kulenović.

The number of doctors who have left the CCUS is not final. Also considering a possible departure are Prof. Dr. Damir Aganović, who once headed this hospital, and his wife Kenana. She was the head of the Internal Medicine Intensive Care Unit, but this unit was abolished by a decision of Director Izetbegović.
