Gazi Husrev-beg Library enriches Sarajevo's Ramadan atmosphere with an exhibition this Ramadan as well

(Patria) - Traditionally, the Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Sarajevo has organized a special exhibition this Ramadan, aiming to enrich the city's Ramadan atmosphere.

This year, the exhibition "Manuscript Juzs of the Quran" features original manuscript juzs of the Mushaf, as well as original three-dimensional objects related to the tradition of reciting the Quran in our region.

"The exhibited manuscript juzs were used in Bosnia and Herzegovina for reciting mukabela. This is a unique opportunity for the Library to display original manuscripts," stated Šahsena Đulović, Public Relations Associate at the Gazi Husrev-beg Library, for MINA Agency.

The exhibited Quranic juzs are distinguished by their exceptional calligraphy, artistic decorations, and particularly beautiful bindings with gold rosettes embossed on the leather covers, both inside and out.

In addition to manuscript examples, the exhibition also features richly decorated printed copies of the Quran, as well as leather pouches for storing the Quran.

"We have also included some three-dimensional objects related to the recitation and preservation of the Quran, such as leather pouches in which the Mushafs were kept," she said.

A rare item on display is a leather pouch for the smallest preserved Quran manuscript in the Gazi Husrev-beg Library, measuring 4x5 cm, likely transcribed in the 17th century.

The exhibition also includes eight informative panels.

"The panels, along with the exhibited material in the display cases, point to the respect and love that Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina have shown and continue to show towards the Quran, primarily by aligning their lives with its content, and then through recitation, memorization, humble listening, and calligraphic writing of the Quranic text, as well as proper attire, performing ablution, keeping the Quran at the prescribed height and in an appropriate place in the home," explained Đulović.

As she emphasized, the entire exhibition speaks to the love and affection that the Bosnian person, a Muslim, felt and feels for the Quran.

"We still feel and see our connection to the Quran today, especially during the month of Ramadan, through the recitation of mukabela, following mukabela, and primarily through aligning life with the principles of the Quran," Đulović conveyed.

The exhibition is open for visits until March 24, 2024, in the hall of the Gazi Husrev-beg Library on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
