Gavrankapetanović: The work we do must be outside of politics, the situation is better, but far from ideal

(Patria) - A press conference was held in Sarajevo on the effects of introducing a new way of working, and other current issues related to the work of the General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš". The presentation was attended by KS Prime Minister Mario Nenadić and Minister Draško Jeličić.

Ismet Gavrankapetanović, acting director, said that the total number of emergency examinations exceeded 6,000.

To date, 51,000 people have received services from a healthcare institution.

It was presented that 739 employees work at the General Hospital, of which 577 are healthcare workers.

The total number of services provided from July 17, 2020, to September 17, 2020, is 198,414. The total number of examinations through the emergency center is 5,999. Total surgeries (elective + emergency + outpatient) are 1,726.

"The general situation is significantly better. Regarding material resources, we have approached the Government and the KS Health Insurance Fund because this way of working is significantly more expensive. To be able to help citizens in this way, we need stronger financial assistance. We will report on everything regularly. The work we do must be outside of politics. We will feel the closure of the healthcare system for a long time," said Gavrankapetanović.

Speaking about the patient's journey, Gavrankapetanović said that improvements are already being felt.

"You know what detours we had. We are close to a solution. This is incomparable to what we had three or four months ago. But it is far from good," added Gavrankapetanović.

Mario Nenadić said that this is an impressive collective.

"We are in contact daily to see how the KS Government can provide additional assistance. We plan to continue strengthening the healthcare system in general. We will continue to monitor all the needs of the General Hospital and develop the system as much as general conditions allow. An isolation unit for moderate and mild cases of coronavirus patients is also being prepared. There will be about 50 beds on one floor. I thank the Government of FBiH for making the premises available," said Nenadić.

Minister Jeličić said that he is also the Minister of Health by necessity.

"My primary task is to deal with the economy. But I will strive to adhere to all postulates regarding what I have now taken on as an obligation. I support all the support that comes from the Government to healthcare. For the next six months, we will provide an additional 108 workers, from doctors to other necessary staff," said Jeličić.
