Gavrankapetanović: I have nothing to hide, I am a target because of my political views!

If the process of examining the origin of property of individuals, politicians and public figures in BiH started with me, so be it, but I hope it will be conducted by a serious state institution, stated for the BH news agency Patria (NAP) dr. Faris Gavrankapetanović, surgeon and former director of the Health Insurance Fund of Sarajevo Canton and the University Clinical Center (KCUS) in the capital.

He commented on the text published by the Center for Investigative Journalism, which listed properties owned by him or his family members. CIN stated that they are worth around two million marks.

- I have not commented on all of this before, because I have been in a legal dispute with the already overthrown Government of Sarajevo Canton for four months. I have never had a problem with transparency. All my property is in BiH and it is not difficult to trace. During the 31 years I have been a doctor, 23 years since specialization, 19 years since my first master's degree and 15 years since my first doctorate, and then as a manager, I have acquired certain property and its origin is easily provable. If anything in that is questionable, I invite the institutions to conduct checks; if the buildings from 1935 and 1938 are the problem, then I am guilty – says Gavrankapetanović.

Regarding the investigation launched against him at the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, Gavrankapetanović also says that he believes in the judicial system and that everyone should do their job.

He explained that the investigation into his property included inherited family real estate, and that everything else was acquired from regular and declared income on which taxes were duly paid.

However, Gavrankapetanović tells NAP that behind all this, apparently, is an attempt by certain political structures in Sarajevo Canton to divert attention from the catastrophic situation in the country by attacking individuals.

I fear that the intention of such activities is not to strengthen transparency, but quite the opposite, to divert attention from real suspicious activities and the difficult political, economic and social situation, especially in KS, and then in the whole country. It is true that I have spoken with individuals, saying that it is time for something to be done and for the country to be saved in this difficult moment. Perhaps some were frightened by this and recognized themselves in the criticisms of citizens, but also in my criticisms. Despite this, I believe that Bosniaks at this moment need a "Pax Bosniaca" about mutual peace and justice the most – adds Gavrankapetanović.
