(Patria) – People around the world are becoming increasingly angry, worried, and affected by stress, according to a new global survey.
The annual 'Global Gallup Emotions Report' reveals that out of approximately 150,000 respondents in more than 140 countries, a third reported suffering from stress, while at least one in five people said they felt sadness or anger.
Respondents were also asked about their positive and negative experiences.
The most negative country is Chad, followed by Niger. The most positive country is Paraguay.
The US ranks 39th among the most positive countries, the UK 46th, and India 93rd.
Researchers asked questions in the context of respondents' experiences the day before the interview. Some of the questions were: 'Did you laugh a lot yesterday?' or 'Were you treated with respect yesterday?'
The surveys showed that stress levels increased significantly compared to the previous year, as did levels of worry and sadness.
Top 5 countries with the most positive experiences:
- Paraguay
- Panama
- Guatemala
- Mexico
- El Salvador
Top 5 countries with the most negative experiences:
- Chad
- Niger
- Sierra Leone
- Iraq
- Iran
Latin American countries such as Paraguay, Panama, and Guatemala top the list of positive experiences, where respondents said they 'felt many positive emotions every day,' reflecting a cultural tendency in Latin America to focus on the positive in life despite problems.
More than seven out of ten interviewed residents of Chad said they could not afford food at least once in the past year, and 61% of respondents from this country said they experienced physical pain.
Incidentally, Chad suffers from internal conflicts, inadequate infrastructure, as well as poor health and social conditions.
Although Chad topped the list of countries based on negative experiences, respondents from Greece and the US are under more stress than those from Chad.
The Greek population is under the most stress in the world, with 59% of respondents saying they experienced stress the day before the survey. About 55% of interviewed Americans said they were stressed, reports the BBC.
