FUCZ issues warning: Floods, landslides, and power outages possible

(Patria) - The Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) has warned of the real danger of consequences from the announced rainfall in the Federation of BiH over the next four days.

According to available meteorological forecasts, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the south of the Federation of BiH, locally exceeding 200 l/m², with a real danger of flash floods, landslides, and overflowing watercourses.

Intense snowfall is also expected in other parts of the Federation of BiH, which could cause traffic collapses, power outages, difficult access to settlements, and endanger the lives and health of the population.

In this regard, all competent civil protection authorities at lower levels of government, public enterprises, services, and institutions are recommended to take the following measures without delay:
‣ placing all available civil protection forces and resources in a state of increased readiness, including professional units and other protection and rescue services;
‣ implementing preventive measures to protect people, residential and other buildings, infrastructure, and material assets, in accordance with protection and rescue plans;
‣ increased monitoring of watercourses, embankments, critical points, and areas prone to floods and landslides, and timely informing of competent services and the population;
‣ preparing machinery, equipment, and personnel for potential emergency action and interventions;
‣ continuous communication and coordination with FUCZ, as well as mutual exchange of information.

JP Roads of the Federation of BiH is specifically tasked with ensuring the constant accessibility of main and regional roads, the readiness of winter services, machinery, and spreading material, and rapid response in case of traffic jams, landslides, snowdrifts, and other threats to traffic safety.

Water management agencies for the Sava River and Adriatic Sea basins are called upon to intensify monitoring of the hydrological situation, take measures within their jurisdiction to regulate and control water levels, and provide timely information on potential dangers and critical level exceedances.

FUCZ states that it will continue to monitor the situation on the ground continuously and, if necessary, take additional measures in accordance with its legal powers.
