Fuad Kasumović to be released from custody today

(Patria) - The Zenica-Doboj Canton Prosecutor's Office will today complete the questioning of the last of the remaining 11 witnesses in the "Zenicatrans" case, and will, during the day, send to the Cantonal Court in Zenica a proposal to lift the custody measure for the Mayor of Zenica, Fuad Kasumović, and Vahdet Drino.

They recalled that the public is already aware that the Cantonal Court in Zenica, acting on the proposal of this Prosecutor's Office, ordered one-month custody for the suspects Fuad Kasumović and Vahdet Drino.

"Custody was ordered for only one legal ground, which is the existence of special circumstances that the suspects, while at liberty, will obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses who needed to be questioned further during the investigation, even though the proposal was filed against multiple suspects and on multiple legal grounds," they emphasized.

Since custody was ordered only on this ground, they added, and considering that it can be minimized, the prosecutor in charge has made maximum efforts to question all 11 remaining witnesses during the past week.

"The questioning of the last scheduled witness is currently underway, meaning the necessary evidence will be secured, and a proposal will soon be sent to the Cantonal Court in Zenica to IMMEDIATELY lift the custody measure for the suspects Kasumović Fuad and Drino Vahdet, and impose a measure prohibiting them from meeting with certain individuals," it was announced.

Kasumović and Drino, who was the President of the Supervisory Board of the Public Utility Company "Zenicatrans-prevoz putnika", were arrested on December 1st in an operation by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), codenamed "Zenicatrans".

By order of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Cantonal Court in Zenica, several individuals were arrested on suspicion of committing organized crime to the detriment of that city company, for which bankruptcy proceedings have been initiated.
