Fra Luka Markešić was a defender of BiH

On the occasion of the death of Fra Luka Markešić, the editorial office of the BH news agency Patria is receiving the first reactions. Dr. Mustafa Cerić, an independent candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH, said that he was deeply saddened by the news of Markešić's death.

- The news of the death of Fra Luka Markešić, a great son, advocate, and defender of Bosnia and Herzegovina, came as a shock to me - said Dr. Cerić. He added that he would remember his meetings and conversations with him.

- He truly and wholeheartedly advocated for the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the preservation of the diverse culture and tradition that its peoples have inherited and continue to cherish. With his passing, we lose a dear friend. I express my condolences to his family, the Croatian National Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena - said Dr. Cerić.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zlatko Lagumdžija, in a statement sent from the MFA BiH, expresses his sincere condolences on the death of the prominent Franciscan Fra Luka Markešić.

- With the departure of this humble man, not only the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena, the Croatian National Council, and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian academic community have lost much, but also the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina - states the letter from Minister Lagumdžija.

A letter of condolence has also been sent to the Provincial of the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena, Fra Lovro Gavran, as well as to the Croatian National Council of BiH, whose president was Fra Markešić.

We remind you that Fra Luka Markešić, a prominent Franciscan, professor at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, and president of the HNV of BiH, passed away last night after 11 PM. The funeral will be held on August 12th at the Bare cemetery at 1 PM.
