PHOTO Battery Factory in Potočari 20 Years After Genocide

Photojournalist of the BH News Agency Patria Armin Durgut took several photos in the Battery Factory in Potočari 48 hours before the 20th anniversary of the largest genocide in Europe after World War II was to be marked at this location.

In this building in 1994 and 1995, the Dutch battalion of UNPROFOR was stationed. Thousands of Srebrenica residents hoped to receive help precisely from this location, but that did not happen.

The area of the factory is about 120,000 square meters, which was enough to shelter all the Bosniak refugees from Srebrenica and surrounding areas. However, the Dutch only admitted between 5,000 and 6,000 people into the factory, while the remaining 20,000 were left outside the fence, at the mercy of Serbian forces.

The army under the command of war criminal Ratko Mladić arrived from two directions, after which mass killings of the wounded, men, women, children, and the elderly followed.

Today, the factory has been turned into a kind of museum where photographs, artistic paintings, and objects related to the Srebrenica genocide are exhibited.
