Forto: EU to consider strategic shift regarding our professional drivers tomorrow

(Patria) - The Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH announced this evening that the European Union will, for the first time, through strategic documents, open the issue of the stay of professional drivers in the Schengen area, recognizing that the existing regime of 90 days within a 180-day period does not suit professionals whose job requires constant mobility between member states.

Opening this issue at the European Union level implies considering the possibility of extended short-term stays for professional drivers and other mobile professionals from third countries, while maintaining the security and legal standards of the Schengen area.

- This is the first time a strategic shift towards our professional drivers, as well as those from the region, is being considered. If a new visa strategy is adopted, it will facilitate our fight in the coming months, although we cannot predict the final outcome - stated the relevant minister, Edin Forto.

The Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH adds that they have continuously worked on the issue of applying the rules of stay in the Schengen area to professional drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they have discussed this problem with EU institutions and relevant international partners on several occasions.
