Formation of POSKOK: Lagumdžija announced the appointment of a certain number of judges and prosecutors for December, also mentioning the battle for FUP!

(Patria) - The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV) could appoint the head, prosecutors, and judges of the Special Department of the Federal Prosecutor's Office of the Federation of BiH for the suppression of corruption, organized and inter-cantonal crime, and the Special Department of the Supreme Court of the FBiH as early as its December session. However, it is possible that not all positions will be filled according to the announcement of the outgoing president of the VSTV, Halil Lagumdžija.

We remind you that the repeated competition was announced on November 4, with a deadline of 15 days for candidate applications. The competition was announced for the head of the Special Department, nine prosecutors, and ten judges.

"I expect that we will have a certain number of both judges and prosecutors at the December session before the New Year," Lagumdžija told BHRT.

When asked if there would be conflicts of jurisdiction between the Special Department and the Prosecutor's Office and Court of BiH, Lagumdžija said that there would be no substantial conflict of jurisdiction.

"There will be some, but the profession will resolve it. I believe this step is necessary and can contribute to the fight against crime and corruption because there is a story, which I think is valid, that in certain parts of the FBiH, there is no prosecution in that segment. The story is that there is a certain collusion between police agencies and prosecutor's offices. FUP is a key police agency, and that's why the battle is for who will be the head of FUP," said Lagumdžija.

As Lagumdžija stated, candidates will be evaluated based on their experience in handling organized crime and corruption cases, or complex criminal cases. For now, there is no information about the applications received for these positions, and a certain number of candidates who applied for the previous competition did not even apply for this repeated one.

At its September session, the VSTV refused to appoint the head and other holders of judicial functions, and in agreement with the US Embassy, it canceled the previous competition. Although they tried to justify this by the insufficient number of quality staff, the question now arises whether these positions are "reserved" for certain individuals. In the meantime, the Rules of Procedure of the VSTV have also been changed, which further specifies that deputy chief prosecutors can also be candidates, regardless of whether they have spent five years in that position.

The US Embassy has clearly emphasized that they expect the special departments to become operational by the end of this year.

The competition procedure for other necessary staff in the Special Departments, lawyers, investigators, psychologists, etc., is also underway.

Since October, the FBiH Government has been renting premises to house the Special Departments, paying 26,000 KM per month. The premises are located in the former Privredna bank building, now owned by a company from Istočno Sarajevo.
