Fondacija Hastor awarded 200 scholarships today

A group of 200 students signed a scholarship agreement for the 2014/2015 academic year in Sarajevo today. The scholarships were made possible by the Hastor Foundation, which, in addition to students, also provides scholarships to 531 elementary school students and 518 high school students. Now, this foundation has 1,249 scholarship holders, making it the largest foundation of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the BH News Agency Patria. 

Among those who signed the agreement today is Sadžida Kosovac, a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo. Sadžida says this is the sixth year of generous support from the Hastor Foundation:

“I am very happy to be part of this big family, which has taught me to face problems, to be more responsible towards myself and others, to accept new challenges, and to be persistent in my decisions. In addition, it has taught me to feel like a winner, as long as I choose the path of education and work on building my own personality and future. I always proudly say that I am a scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation“.

This year, the "Commission for Awarding Scholarships of the Hastor Foundation" decided to award an additional 38 scholarships to students from flood-affected areas, thus increasing the previously announced support for 162 students to 200.

 “For eight years, I have been accompanied not only by financial assistance but also by the moral support of this collective,” says Marija Mrđa from Derventa, a student at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation in Tuzla, adding, “given the difficult situation in our country and the number of young people who would like to study but cannot, I feel honored to be a scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation. How much the Foundation cares about us was clear when they called each of us during the floods to make sure we were okay and to see if we needed anything.”

According to its concept, the Hastor Foundation provides scholarships throughout all 12 months of the year, and the Foundation's team regularly visits its scholarship holders with the aim of motivating them and achieving the best possible results. Scholarship holders who improve their academic performance are also awarded a 13th scholarship. It is important to emphasize that once someone becomes a scholarship holder, the Foundation provides support and a scholarship until the completion of their education.

All scholarship holders volunteer 10 hours per month in their communities, and over the last three years, they have accumulated over 30,000 volunteer hours. The Hastor Foundation increases the number of scholarship holders every year and actively works on empowering young people who can bring about change tomorrow, which is actually one of its main goals.
