
By visiting the Srebrenica Memorial Center, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began her visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Von der Leyen was welcomed in Srebrenica by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Srebrenica, Hamdija Fejzić, and the Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić.
The EC President paid tribute to the victims, laid flowers, and then visited the Genocide Museum, located in the former Battery Factory in Potočari.
After visiting Srebrenica, Von der Leyen is traveling to Sarajevo, where she will meet with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, during the day.
The Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, extended a warm welcome to Von der Leyen in BiH, emphasizing that her visit comes at an extremely important moment, given that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina recently submitted the Reform Agenda within the Growth Plan to the European Commission.
As stated on platform X, the focus of today's discussions with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers will be on how Bosnia and Herzegovina can concretely advance on its European path and fully utilize the opportunities offered through the Growth Plan.
The President of the European Commission is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of a regional visit to the Western Balkans, through which the European Union wishes to confirm its strategic commitment to the region's European perspective.
Earlier, she stated that she is coming to the Western Balkan countries to emphasize the EU's support for the region's path towards EU accession, as well as gradual accession to the single market, and to discuss the EU's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
