FK Sarajevo wins CUP, 90 flares lit

Football Club Sarajevo won the BiH CUP by defeating Čelik with an aggregate score of 5:1. In the first match in Zenica, the maroon club celebrated with 2:0, while tonight at the Koševo stadium they confirmed their victory with a score of 3:1, writes the Patria News Agency.

This is Sarajevo's fifth BiH Cup title since 1995, and symbolically, seven years ago on this day, the Koševo Premier League team also won the championship title. By winning the CUP, Sarajevo has secured a place in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Dženan Uščuplić, the coach of Sarajevo who replaced Croatian expert Robert Jarni on the maroon team's bench, said after the match that his players have character and know how to play. Uščuplić has not lost a single one of the seven matches he has managed FK Sarajevo.

- I am overjoyed. I was born in this city and we dedicate this trophy to all the fans. I also won the CUP as a player, and now as a coach, I am overjoyed - said Uščuplić.

Sarajevo fans eagerly awaited the long-awaited trophy, and 90 flares were lit towards the end of the match.

The match had not only competitive significance but also a humanitarian character, as part of the proceeds will be donated to flood victims. FK Sarajevo has been involved in aid collection and donation efforts since the beginning of the natural disaster that struck BiH. Vincent Tan, the majority owner of the maroon club, has also allocated 225,000 KM for the affected people and has launched a fundraising campaign through his newspaper in Malaysia, "The Sun".
