FIS will, as it once was, be a cult gathering place for all generations

For almost five decades, FIS has been a cult gathering place for all generations. Since the 1950s, it has become the sports and cultural center of the city, writes the BiH news agency Patria. 

The facility suffered significant material damage during the aggression against BiH. In the period from 1998-2001, the Public Institution Center for Sport and Recreation operated at a loss, and the management at the time was mainly focused on unsuccessful attempts to find new "commercial" businesses outside its core activities.

In the second half of 2002, the founder changed the management and administration and gave full support to the new concept of work, i.e., returning the PI CSR to its core activities in order to achieve the public interest of the Centar Sarajevo Municipality in the field of sport.

At the beginning of 2008, artificial turf was installed on the outdoor court of FIS, existing stands and stage were repaired, new floodlights, goals, and safety nets were installed, the fence was arranged, and the changing rooms, corridors, and wet areas on the ground floor were renovated. The entire project was financed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, SERDA, and PI "CSR".

In the spring of 2008, the facade and roof of the FIS facility were reconstructed. At the same time, the carpentry in the halls on the west side was replaced, new skylights were installed, and new gutters and snow guards were put in place. The project "Reconstruction of the facade and roof of the FIS facility" was financed by the Centar Sarajevo Municipality and PI "CSR".

The sports hall on the third floor of FIS was opened this year, and it was renovated with joint funds from the Centar Sarajevo Municipality, headed by Dževad Bećirević, and the Center for Sport and Recreation. 

The FIS facility has a hall for sports games, a gymnastics hall, a hall for martial arts, and an outdoor court with artificial turf for football, which is covered by a heated dome, and changing rooms and showers are provided for users. Time slots can be rented daily, and the dome is open literally 24 hours a day. The Center is headed by director Jasmina Polić. 

More and more sports clubs, children, young people, and also older individuals are increasingly participating in sports activities and using all the facilities that FIS offers. Therefore, it is expected that this cult place could very soon fully regain its former splendor and charm.
