Financial Police Scrutinizes Documents of Sarajevo Canton Government and Assembly from Elmedin Konaković's Term

(Patria) - The Federal Financial Police, under the order of the Special Department for Corruption, Organized and Inter-Cantonal Crime (POSKOK) of the Supreme Court of FBiH, has seized documents from the Sarajevo Canton Government and Assembly from the previous period related to possible irregularities during the time Elmedin Konaković held the positions of Chairman of the Assembly and Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton.

POSKOK confirmed to Faktor that the documents were seized as part of a case concerning the period 2015-2018, when the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Elmedin Konaković, served as Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton and for two years as Chairman of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly.

Additionally, it was stated that a short period when Adem Zolj was the cantonal prime minister is also under review.

POSKOK clarifies that this is currently not an investigation, but rather a verification of allegations from a report against Konaković for alleged abuse of position or authority.

We remind that a case based on a report against Konaković was formed in the Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office, and after the formation of POSKOK, it was transferred to them, as the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office no longer has jurisdiction in this matter.

The case, among other things, relates to the allocation of grants during the time Konaković was Chairman of the Assembly. For instance, the financial report of the Office of the Chairman of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly in 2019, during Konaković's tenure, indicated a number of possible irregularities.

Among other things, it was determined that there were no grounds for planning transfers to individuals and non-profit organizations and associations within the Office of the Chairman, as these activities are not within the scope of responsibilities defined by the Constitution and Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, nor are they foreseen in the Assembly's Work Program for 2019.
